Expect Respect Counselor

SAFE’s Expect Respect Program seeks a Counselor to help young people develop skills for healthy peer and dating relationships. Expect Respect is a research-based program that has demonstrated significant reductions in peer and dating violence. This position will work as part of a team that supports vulnerable youth through school-based support groups, counseling and innovative prevention programs in the Austin area middle and high schools.

About this position:

  • We need you to fill the role of Expect Respect Counselor. This is a full-time, exempt position at our Grove campus, with frequent travel to schools in the Austin area. We will pay you an annual salary of $53,000-55,000. Those that are bilingual in English and Spanish will be eligible for an additional annual language differential. 

Key Duties:

  • Provide weekly, curriculum-based support groups for students at increased risk due to previous exposure to violence, abuse or other risk factors.
  • Conduct individual intake, clinical/risk assessment and counseling sessions.
  • Approaches all aspects of their work with individuals and systems with the goal of increasing diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Work as part of a team to conduct professional training and prevention activities for youth and adults throughout the school year.

Qualifications:

  • Possess an MSW or MA degree in a counseling-related field is required, appropriate licensure is preferred. 
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with youth in a group setting.
  • Possess knowledge of child development and therapy modalities appropriate for children and teens and knowledge about sexual abuse and effects of domestic violence on children.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills with preference for English/Spanish fluency.
  • Must have a valid, State of Texas Driver’s License, and at least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age; AND an acceptable driving record; AND if in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of beginning employment.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.

Please Note: All new employees regardless of FTE status will be required to start their employment on either the 1st or 16th of the month and will be required to attend a three-day new employee orientation that is held both in-person and virtually.

*Benefits are prorated based on date of hire and hours worked. Eligibility is dependent upon FTE, status, etc.
