Youth and Family Support Specialist

Community Resource Advocacy and Grove Place Services seeks a full-time Youth & Family Support Specialist. Under the general direction of the Manager of Grove Place Services, this position is responsible for community engagement, individualized case management and advocacy for residents of Grove Place Apartments which may identify as survivors of sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking that improves survivors’ self-sufficiency. As well as being an essential part in helping to plan out the vision and direction of the youth component of the Grove Place Services programs.

About this position:

  • We need you to fill the role of Youth & Family Support Specialist. This is a full-time, non-exempt position at our Grove Place Apartments (in-person, occasional evening/weekend shifts and some travel required). We will pay you an hourly rate of $19.00. Candidates who are bilingual in the English and Spanish languages are eligible for an additional language differential.

Key Duties:

  • Provide trauma-informed information and referral services to help participants set short-term goal plans and to assist residents in accessing needed resources.
  • Serve as a role model for positive interaction with children, which may occur during afterschool, summer, or other times when school is out of session.
  • Coordinate community events which may be during the evenings and/or on weekends, facilitate the identification and coordination of speakers and volunteers to present and help at events.
  • Possess high level of work ethics with handling confidential client information, appropriately sets professional boundaries, be able to communicate and respond appropriately to the cultural differences among both staff and clients.
  • Be able to effectively process and keep up with various tasks at once, manage multiple demands on your attention, and be able to clearly document and maintain client files as directed by funder requirements.​​​​​​​

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, child development or related field preferred; OR High School/GED with equivalent life and/or work experiences.
  • One year’s experience working with youth.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication-written, verbal and listening skills.
  • Knowledge of issues and systems related to domestic violence, sexual abuse, and homelessness preferred.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
  • Have a valid, State of Texas Driver’s License, AND at least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age; AND an acceptable driving record. If in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of beginning employment.
