Program Director Transitional Living and Supervised Independent Living

SAFE Transitional and Supervised Independent Living seeks a full-time Program Director. SAFES Transitional Living Program serves youth ages 16-21 in a residential setting as they prepare and build skills towards independence. Our supervised Independent Living setting serves youth 18-21 in a non-college dormitory setting as they fine tune skills towards independence. The Director’s role is to continually refine programs aimed at improving outcomes for transition-aged youth. The Director will supervise, train and lead case managers, program managers, and youth care workers to ensure that all services are provided in accordance with SAFE policies and procedures, current contractual, federal, state and local requirements, and Residential Childcare Licensing (RCCL) standards.

About this position:

  • We need you to fill the role of Director of Transitional and Supervised Independent Living.  This is a full time, exempt position at our RV Campus location. We will pay you an annual salary in the range of low to mid 50’s based on experience.

Key Duties:

  • Monitor, support, and supervise program employees, ensuring that staff are engaged with, and accountable for, all aspects of their jobs; cultivate professional growth and development of all program staff.
  • Ensure safety, supervision, and exceptional care of program residents at all times.
  • Participate in annual development of program budgets and impact plans; manage program expenditures and meet the yearly program budget resourcefully.
  • Participate in hiring and ongoing performance management of employees.
  • Share “Crisis On Call” responsibility, including but not limited to: managing crises and supporting direct care staff remotely or in person; being available to work “on the floor” when staff-to-resident ratio is not met, requiring ability to respond in-person within one hour; reporting all required issues to the LCCA within required timeframes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make quick, safety focused decisions and report any risk management issues in accordance with relevant Policies and Procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain programming that meets the needs of the youth we serve with the occasional need to modify programming based upon risks, needs, strengths and dynamics of the current composition of the milieu.
  • Plan and align your program with organizational goals and priorities, using evidence-based and evidence-informed practices specific to work with transition-aged youth who live in foster care.
  • Effectively evaluate and identify areas of improvement in current TLP/SIL programming, constructing solutions and implementing changes.​​​​​​​


  • One of the following combination of education and experience is required:
    • Graduation from an accredited 4-year College or University with a degree in social service related field required. Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience AND with residential child care experience serving a broad range of ages from infants to teenagers, with experience with teens preferred. OR
    • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Social Work or related field; specialization in children and families preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience with at least one (1) years of supervisory experience AND with residential child care experience serving a broad range of ages from infants to teenagers, with experience with teens preferred.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
  • All employees are required to comply with policies regarding COVID-19, which may be subject to change. COVID vaccines are still highly recommended, and we encourage employees to get vaccinated if they are able.
  • Be 21 years of age or older, with:
    • Valid, State of Texas Driver’s License;
    • At least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age; and
    • An acceptable driving record; and
    • If in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of beginning employment.
  • Must be a Texas Licensed Child Care Administrator OR willing and able to obtain LCCA within 1 year of employment.
  • A minimum of 2 years of Director-level experience strongly preferred; case management experience strongly preferred.
  • History of work with teenagers and emerging adults preferred.
  • Work experience in high-stress environment/s, with established, healthy coping skills.
  • Demonstrated, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with ability to tailor messaging according to intended audience.​​​​​​​
