Chief Equity Officer (CEqO) also known as Chief DEI Officer

SAFE seeks a full-time Chief Equity Officer (CEqO) who will be the principal architect for integrating inclusive strategies and best practices from the field of domestic and sexual violence, child abuse, and human trafficking that inform our continuous improvement in addressing the intersections of racial and ethnic trauma, gender based trauma and interpersonal violence.

The CEqO will actively work with SAFE leaders at all levels to identify and dismantle systemic bias in all processes, systems and programs. They will prioritize a culture of belonging for all communities at SAFE by ensuring staff accountability in upholding Equity, Inclusion and Diversity (EID) principles and standards.

The CEqO is responsible for supporting SAFE in being intentionally and proactively anti-racist, and ensuring inclusivity, accessibility, and belonging for all marginalized identities and communities, and for aiding in ensuring staffs’ accountability in upholding DEI principles and standards. They will serve on the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams to inform and implement SAFE’s strategic plan and annual operating plans.

  • The SAFE Alliance grew out of the courageous work of the Center for Battered Women, the Austin Rape Crisis Center, and the Austin Children’s Shelter, all respected, women-led human service agencies created by volunteers and informed by survivors who needed support, safety and justice.

About this position:

  • We need you to fill the role of Chief Equity Officer. This is a full-time and exempt position working a combination of remote and on-site from SAFE’s campuses in east Austin. Salary will be commensurate with experience starting at $115,000. 

Key Duties:

  • Leads and helps integrate inclusive strategies and best practices from the field of domestic and sexual violence, child abuse, and human trafficking that inform our continuous improvement in addressing the intersections of racial trauma and interpersonal violence into all areas at SAFE.
  • Partners with SAFE’s EDI Committee, Executive Leadership, and the CEO to establish and implement our goals, guiding principles, and ongoing practices to ensure a welcoming and inclusive organization for all clients and employees.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure that practices in recruitment, hiring, onboarding, professional development, promotion, compensation, and career paths are equitable and inclusive.
  • Aides in undoing any racist or non-inclusive aspects of agency culture.
  • Integrates best practices from other sectors, stakeholders, and organizations that will promote continuous improvement of EID impact on people seeking SAFE services.

​​​​​​​Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university or a substantial combination of personal, professional, and academic experience required.
  • 6 + years of experience doing inclusion, equity and diversity (IED) work required, leadership experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of non-profits, social services and/or SAFE’s issue areas preferred.
  • Experience on leadership teams preferred.
  • Ability to problem solve under pressure, navigate confidentiality considerations, and use diplomacy, as well as effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), have a valid Texas driver’s license and provide Department of Public Safety proof of driving record acceptable to agency insurers for the past three years; as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
