what WE need YOU to do for us

We need you to fill the role of Cook. This is a full time, non-exempt position. You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:

  • Menu planning. The Cook values differences and is client/customer focused when menu planning, taking into account differing dietary needs of the children enrolled in the program.  Provides for breakfast, lunch, and a snack for all children in the program.
  • Meal preparation. The Cook utilizes resourcefulness in meal preparation keeping a running inventory of food items stored in the pantry in the CDC as well as the pantry in the warehouse. 
  • Order food. Puts together a request for food on a weekly basis. Obtains food from the warehouse pantry as necessary.  Is trustworthy when obtaining food from warehouse.
  • Clean and sanitize dishes and equipment. Keeps the kitchen, appliances and working surfaces in a clean, sanitary condition.
  • Responsible for meal preparation duties to ensure food services each day the program is open.  Prepare meals for up to 80 people.  Display a high level of resilience during meal service and preparation.
  • Prepare menus according to USDA guidelines.
  • Accurately maintain all documentation relating to food service.
  • Exercise sound decision quality and ensures that all health regulations are followed consistently.
  • Observe and corrects/reports all hazardous conditions of the building, grounds or equipment.
  • Cooperates and uses strong interpersonal skill when communicating with classroom teachers concerning classroom cooking projects and obtains needed supplies.
  • Obtains required licenses and certifications as directed.
  • Utilizes supervision effectively and works toward personal and professional growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.

to be successful in this role, WE’LL need YOU to

  • Possess a minimum High School education or GED.
  • Possess a current food handler certificate.
  • Have experience in commercial food planning and preparation.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and ability to plan nutritious meals for up to 80 people.
  • Knowledge of handling commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of TDA/USDA preferred.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing job training.
  • Enjoyment of children and the ability to work positively with them.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check)
  • Adhere to our Guiding Principles, Mission, Core Competencies and Confidentiality Policy.

how WE’LL make it worth YOUR while

  • We will pay you an annual salary of $11.50 - $12.50.
  • We’ll pay for your medical, life and short-term disability insurance.
  • We will give you 15 accrued paid time off days in the first year, and 22 days in the second year, capping out at 30 days after year seven.
  • We’ll pay you for our six agency holidays and four additional personal holidays to be used at your discretion.
  • We’ll contribute 2% to your 403(b) retirement, and we’ll kick in an additional 1% if you agree to match it.
  • We understand that you have commitments outside of the workplace, and we’ll do our very best to offer you some flexibility in your work schedule.
