Strong Start seeks a full-time Parent Educator for their community education program that offers support services to help strengthen families that live in Travis or Williamson County. The Strong Start program aims at increasing the knowledge and awareness of child development, encouraging positive discipline techniques, by using evidence based curriculum (Triple P or Nurturing Parenting) to address the challenges the family is facing directly in their home. This Parent Educator is responsible for the delivery of prevention services to eligible families in the greater Austin community, and will also provide services to eligible children, via the Children Support Services.

About this position:
- We need you to fill the role of Parent Educator. This is a full-time, exempt position at our Rathgeber Village Campus. Your office would be located at the RV campus however, you will be traveling most of the time visiting families in their homes and out in the community. The salary for this position is $46,500 - $48,000 dependent on experience and an additional $3,600 bilingual differential for those who speak/write English & Spanish.
- Please note: Due to COVID-19, we are using a hybrid model for parent education sessions. We’ll allow the families to determine if in-person and/or virtual sessions are best for them.
Key Duties:
- Assist caregivers in identifying strength-based parenting goals to meet needs and overcome barriers of parenting.
- Implement assessment tools with caregivers and children to identify strengths and challenges to better assist in achieving parenting and family goals.
- Provide individual parent education during home visits and/or group-based parent education classes using an evidence-based curriculum. Provide one-on-one and/or group therapeutic social emotional learning to eligible children.
- Connecting clients with various outside agencies, community resources and services when needed.
- Connect with representatives at local community organizations to build partnerships for recruitment, using a variety of innovative methods and tools.
- Make sound decisions that help the client progress towards self-identified goals, while ensuring the safety of everyone, including reporting all concerns of alleged or validated child abuse and/or neglect to the Program Manager, and possibly to the CPS Child Abuse Hotline.
- Maintain accountability through weekly supervision with her/his supervisor which ensures the Parent Educator is maintaining client files, using measurements for client success, keeping up with data entry and assessing outcomes/outputs.
- Display a high level of resiliency by adapting to necessary changes or unforeseen circumstances in programming and helping clients remain on track with personal goals in times of crisis and setbacks.
- Effectively consult and collaborate with various community entities and SAFE professionals to provide holistic services to the client as a team.
- Attend trainings, workshops, and conferences for professional development.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Associates level education in a health and human services field required; Bachelor’s degree in a health and human services field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of direct service experience working in health and human services field, preferably with vulnerable or at-risk families including direct work with children required.
- Is knowledgeable of healthy childhood development, the impact of abuse/neglect/trauma on development, and the signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect
- Must have a valid, State of Texas Driver’s License, and
- at least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age; AND an acceptable driving record; AND if in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of beginning employment.
- Ability to provide parent education sessions on evenings and/or weekends (as needed).
- Is knowledgeable of various community resources and services that may benefit families served and is able to effectively collaborate with various entities for the benefit of the client.
- Is able to establish and maintain professional boundaries while providing supportive services.
- Bilingual in the English and Spanish languages preferred.
- Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test (if applicable).

Please Note: All new employees regardless of status will be required to start their employment on either the 1st or 16th of the month and will be required to attend a three-day new employee orientation that is held both in-person and virtually the first three days of the month.
