Strong Start seeks a full-time Parent Educator. Strong Start is a community education program that offers support services to help strengthen families that live in Travis or Williamson County. The Strong Start program aims at increasing the knowledge and awareness of child development, encouraging positive discipline techniques, as well as tailor making the curriculum (Triple P or Nurturing Parenting) used to address the challenges the family is facing directly in their home. The Parent Educator is responsible for the delivery of prevention services to eligible families in the greater Austin community.

About this position:
We need you to fill the role of Parent Educator. This is a FULL TIME, EXEMPT position at our Rathgeber Village Campus. Although your office will be located there, you will be on the road most of the time, visiting families in their homes and out in the community. We will pay you an salary of $38,000 - $39,520.
Assist caregivers in identifying strength based parenting goals to meet needs and overcome barriers of parenting.
Implement assessment tools with caregivers to identify strengths and challenges to better assist in achieving parenting goals.
Provide individual parent education during home visits and/or group-based parent education classes using an evidence-based curriculum. Connecting clients with various outside agencies, community resources and services when needed.
Make sound decisions that help the client progress towards self-identified goals, while ensuring the safety of everyone, including reporting all concerns of alleged or validated child abuse and/or neglect to the Program Manager, and possibly to the CPS Child Abuse Hotline.
Maintain accountability through weekly supervision with her/his supervisor which ensures the Parent Educator is maintaining client files, using measurements for client success, keeping up with data entry and assessing outcomes/outputs.
Display a high level of resiliency by adapting to necessary changes or unforeseen circumstances in programming and helping clients remain on track with personal goals in times of crisis and setbacks.
Effectively consult and collaborate with various community entities and SAFE professionals to provide holistic services to the client as a team.
Attend trainings, workshops, and conferences for professional development.
Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood development, social work, or a related field. MA degree in social work, counseling, therapy, or a related field preferred.
Have 2 years of experience working with vulnerable or at-risk families.
Is knowledgeable of healthy childhood development, the impact of abuse/neglect/trauma on development, and the signs/symptoms of abuse and neglect.
Have valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and insurance as a driver.
Is available to provide home visits on evenings and/or weekends (as needed), and on an emergency basis.
Is knowledgeable of various community resources and services that may benefit families served and is able to effectively collaborate with various entities for the benefit of the client.
Is able to establish and maintain professional boundaries while providing supportive services.
Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
Being able to clearly and accurately communicate to convey information using both the Spanish and English language, verbally and in writing, preferred.

The SAFE Alliance grew out of the courageous work of the Center for Battered Women, the Austin Rape Crisis Center, and the Austin Children’s Shelter, all respected, women-led human service agencies created by volunteers and informed by survivors who needed support, safety and justice.
