Strong Start Program Director

The Strong Start Program Director is responsible for management and oversight of program implementation and operations including grant management for child abuse prevention and family preservation services within the Strong Start program. The position will be responsible for supervision of program staff and activities and will work collaboratively with other service providers and partners to ensure client, community and agency goals are met. The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop and provide program guidance for continuous improvement for our prevention services while also working to ensure specific program and grant protocols and objectives are met.

About this position:

  • We need you to fill the role of Strong Start Program Director. This is a FULL TIME, EXEMPT position at our Rathgeber Village location in Austin with potential for hybrid work. Travel locally to governmental and partner organizations is expected. We will pay you an annual salary commensurate with experience in the salary range of $55,500- $58,000.

Key Duties:

  • Plans, implements, manages and evaluates SAFE’s child abuse prevention and family preservation services in the Strong Start program.
  • Maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders including subcontracting agencies. Ensures that programs are cooperatively planned, implemented, operated and evaluated.
  • Directly manages key program staff, and is responsible for assessing and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Represents SAFE Alliance at community meetings, with coalitions, funders and tasks force working on issues related to prevention and interventions services.
  • Responsible for assisting with program budget oversight, that prevention programs are operating within budgets; assists in the annual budget and impact plan development process; and developing new and renewed funding as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree in Social Work or other related field; Master’s Degree preferred with a specialization in children and families; and three years of experience in the administration of social service programs including: staff supervision; design and/or implementation of social service programs; management of governmental grants; and working within collaborations.
    • ONLY with funder approval, may substitute for bachelor’s degree; a minimum 7 years of experience in experience in the administration of social service programs including: staff supervision; design and/or implementation of social service programs; management of governmental grants; and working within collaborations.
  • A demonstrated and thorough understanding of child development, the dynamics of abuse and neglect, and of trauma-based responses.
  • Knowledge of home visitation practices and models preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Must have a valid, State of Texas Driver’s License, AND at least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age AND an acceptable driving record. If in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of beginning employment.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
