Community Volunteer Coordinator
The Community Volunteer Coordinator’s primary focus is to recruit, screen, and oversee community and corporate group volunteers, special event volunteers and all flexible volunteer positions across SAFE campuses. This position works closely with Programs, the Director of In-Kind Services, and the Development Team to help determine ways community volunteers can assist in their areas.

- The SAFE Alliance grew out of the courageous work of the Center for Battered Women, the Austin Rape Crisis Center, and the Austin Children’s Shelter, all respected, women-led human service agencies created by volunteers and informed by survivors who needed support, safety and justice.

About this position:
- We are looking for one person to work on a full-time, exempt basis for an annual salary range of $41,000 - $44,000 dependent upon experience. The work location will be at our Grove Blvd. Campus in the East Austin area. This position will include some local travel and will allow for some remote/hybrid work.
Key Duties:
- Works with program staff to determine, evaluate, and create new volunteer needs and drives vision and purpose when co-facilitating SAFE Info Sessions throughout the year.
- Manages the process and coordination of large group volunteer projects in collaboration with the Director of In-Kind/Asset Manager, Facilities, and the Development Team.
- Drives engagement when recruiting for difficult volunteer positions and pressing event or facilities needs that can be fulfilled by the work of volunteers.; conducts interviews of prospective volunteers and make determinations for suitability with the program.
- Ensures Accountability in nurturing an ongoing means of communicating new opportunities and agency happenings, in addition to recognizing and appreciating volunteers through numerous avenues such as social media, management of the annual Volunteer Celebration Event, Frankie Fowler Volunteer of the Year Award and Longevity of Service Awards.
- Works closely with Volunteer Services Director to evaluate the effectiveness of SAFE’s Community Volunteer Program; maintains an ongoing awareness of trends in volunteer needs and assesses for improvements. Assists with setting and achieving annual performance goals (outcome and output), assisting with the annual budget setting, grant compliance and reporting as required.
- Collaborates and works closely with Volunteer Services Team to ensure accountability of volunteer data and volunteer management software. Will create a self- paced online orientation for corporate, flexible and community volunteers. Will take a leadership role in creating online modules for other aspects of volunteer services.
- Participate in public-speaking engagements and/or agency tours on behalf of the agency as needed.
- Thinks resourcefully as the lead VS team member serving as the main coordinator of Volunteer Leadership Committee meetings which are vital to planning the Volunteer Celebration Event.
- Employs resourcefulness when assisting in the development of new SAFE Community Volunteer programs or modifying and improving existing programs, and consistently aims these efforts toward improving volunteer satisfaction, engagement, and excellence.
- Assists with room set up for in person Core Advocate Training sessions, including food prep and presentation. Will manage an inventory of training food, snacks, other office and training supplies and will serve as the point person for catering orders for special volunteer services events such as the Volunteer Celebration and other events.
- Is consistently above board, beyond reproach and trustworthy when handling confidential volunteer information such as criminal background checks and reference checks.
- Multi-tasks with strong situational adaptability and a keen eye for optimizing work processes, even when the work seems repetitive or mundane.
- Work evenings and weekends as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in social work, human services, communications, public administration, public relations or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in Volunteer Management, and special event coordination preferred.
- Knowledge of child abuse, sexual and domestic violence issues or experience in direct services to survivors of abuse or related human service issues.
- Experience and ability in establishing teamwork, loyalty, and enthusiasm among volunteers and ability to work cooperatively with external partners and constituencies.
- Demonstrated experience in training and effective communication to small and large groups and excellent communication and listening skills.
- Demonstrates appropriate skill level and capability in the operation of computers and general office software programs, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software; ability to learn and adapt to new technology and volunteer database management systems (i.e. Raiser’s Edge, Volunteer Hub, and Apricot).
- Must maintain flexibility and show demonstrated ability to take responsibility for a diverse number of projects and complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision. Pays careful attention to detail; works with accuracy and maintains neat, well-organized records.
- Preference for bilingual Spanish-English speaker.
- Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well as submit to a pre-employment drug screen and TB test (if applicable).

- Have a valid, State of Texas Driver’s License, and:
- At least three (3) consecutive years of driving experience OR one (1) year of driving experience if over 27 years of age; AND an acceptable driving record. If in possession of an out-of-state license, obtain a State of Texas Driver’s License within 90 days of beginning employment.

Please Note: All new employees regardless of employment status will be required to start their employment on either the 1st or 16th of the month and will be required to attend a three-day new employee orientation that is held both in-person and virtually the first three days of the month.
