what WE need YOU to do for us

We need you to fill the role of SAFEline Advocate. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:

  • Emotional support to survivors of sexual and domestic violence, stalking, child abuse and human trafficking
  • Providing crisis intervention, information and referrals and safety planning on SAFE chatline and on SAFE hotline when not on chatline
  • Screening for shelter admission
  • When appropriate, connection to all SAFE services

to be successful in this role, WE’LL need YOU to

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field, or sufficient relevant work or volunteer experience in lieu of degree
  • 1-2 years crisis intervention experience preferred
  • Fully English/Spanish bilingual with excellent speaking and writing skills in both languages
  • Have a good knowledge of available resources in Austin/Travis County
  • Possess excellent problem-solving abilities, especially under pressure
  • Have the ability to remain positive, calm and supportive in challenging situations and convey these qualities to those on chatline and hotline
  • Ability to accurately type at an average speed of 40 wpm
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well as submit to a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
