what WE need YOU to do for us

We need you to fill the role of Shelter Advocacy Case Aide. This is a PART TIME, NON-EXEMPT position. You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:

  • Employs a client focused attitude when they orient survivors to the shelter building and assigned cluster helping to ensure that family members and individuals feel safe and are introduced to other residents and staff. Focuses on supporting survivors with communal living and community building and anything related to a comfortable and successful shelter stay.
  • Provides support to Shelter Advocacy team in making an assessment to survivors as needed by making sure they instill trust while addressing safety planning, immediate health or basic needs.
  • Participates in documented personalized safety planning with the survivors by implementing motivation/persuasiveness to educate the client on the importance of this upon entrance to the shelter as well as prior to their exiting.
  • Ensures they build networks when providing service coordination with the SafeHealth, Strong Start, Project Hopes, SAFE Futures, Survivor Advocates, Children's Staff, Counselors and Resident Advisors and other agency or community programs as needed. Familiarizes survivors with the program structure and its resources and the roles of shelter and agency staff.
  • Signs up survivors for coordinated assessment completion and guides them through the process and manages ambiguity and support the survivor through this process. 
  • Optimizes work processes by setting systems in place for survivors to address their needs, including extension requests and referrals to housing or shelter wait lists. 
  • Provides support to Shelter Advocacy team in providing support to survivors (adult and children)- maintains a positive outlook and encourages independence and resourcefulness; assists survivors (including children) process issues around communal living, coping skills, and emotional support; provides individual crisis counseling with family members and individuals as needed ensuring they adhere to situational adaptability while valuing differences in client interactions and needs.
  • Works on being current on information about local social services agencies: medical, mental health, legal,
  • Child care, housing, parenting, financial support, educational, counseling, and others. Makes this information available to shelter residents by posting and handing out the information and ensures resourcefulness in order to meet client needs.
  • Is organizationally savvy to assist with Shelter Advocacy service provision by staying abreast of application processes, enrollment procedures, and any new information about frequently used social services.
  • Other duties may include: helping distribute food to residents at the food pantry, facilitating cluster meetings, covering the front desk, completing initial intakes, taking hotline calls, and will do so showing resilience and optimal decision quality in prioritizing their work load.                          

to be successful in this role, WE’LL need YOU to

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, or related field preferred.
  • One years’ experience in human services is preferred; however, two years of professional experience in human services may be substituted for each year of bachelor’s level education.
  • Fluent in Spanish verbal and written preferred.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well as submit to a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.

how WE’LL make it worth YOUR while

  • We will pay you an hourly salary of $13.00 to $14.50 based on experience.
  • We’ll pay for your medical, life and short-term disability insurance.
  • We will give you 15 accrued paid time off days in the first year, and 22 days in the second year, capping out at 30 days after year seven.
  • We’ll pay you for our six agency holidays and four additional personal holidays to be used at your discretion.
  • We’ll contribute 2% to your 403(b) retirement, and we’ll kick in an additional 1% if you agree to match it.
  • We understand that you have commitments outside of the workplace, and we’ll do our very best to offer you some flexibility in your work schedule.
