what WE need YOU to do for us

We need you to fill the role of Bilingual Counselor. This is a FULL-TIME, EXEMPT position. You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:

  • Work in collaboration with American Gateways to provide strengths-based, trauma-informed counseling services and therapeutic support to immigrant survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking who are involved in immigration proceedings. Services provided will include intake, clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and ongoing counseling for adults, children and adolescents, families, and groups. Services may be provided in person or over the phone. The counselor will also conduct advocacy in support of clients’ pending immigration proceedings.

to be successful in this role, WE’LL need YOU to

  • Possess a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Be licensed as an LMSW, LCSW, LPC-I, LPC, LMFT-A, or LMFT; advanced licensure is preferred.
  • Have some previous clinical experience gained through internship or employment.
  • Have knowledge of therapeutic modalities appropriate for working with survivors of interpersonal violence and trauma. Previous experience working with this population is preferred, but not required.
  • Be fully bilingual in Spanish and English, able to provide counseling services in Spanish, and able to counsel clients who speak other languages through an interpreter.
  • Be passionate about working with the immigrant community and committed to providing culturally relevant services.
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week including some evening hours).
  • Be flexible about working in non-traditional therapeutic settings.
  • Have a valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and insurance as a driver.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well as submit to a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.

how WE’LL make it worth YOUR while

  • We will pay you an annual salary of $42,640-$44,720.
  • We’ll pay for your medical, life and short-term disability insurance.
  • We will give you 15 accrued paid time off days in the first year, and 22 days in the second year, capping out at 30 days after year seven.
  • We’ll pay you for our six agency holidays and four additional personal holidays to be used at your discretion.
  • We’ll contribute 2% to your 403(b) retirement, and we’ll kick in an additional 1% if you agree to match it.
  • We understand that you have commitments outside of the workplace, and we’ll do our very best to offer you some flexibility in your work schedule.
