Behavioral and Educational Support Specialist (Munday Campus)

Charter School Program seeks a behavioral and educational support specialist (BESS). The Charter School exists to provide educational services to students 6th through 12th grade who are living in SAFE residential programs. Students attending the school have each experienced some form of trauma/abuse, thus the school staff work to maintain a trauma-informed environment conducive to academic and emotional progress. The BESS will provide behavioral and academic support, and other school-wide duties as needed to students attending the school.

About this position:

  • We need you to fill the Full Time/Non-Exempt, role of Behavioral and Educational Support Specialist at our on-site Charter School. We will pay you an hourly salary of $18.00-$19.00, DOE. Candidates who are bilingual in the English and Spanish languages are eligible for a language differential. Scheduled work week is Monday-Friday the times vary depending on meetings and transportation needs for students.

​​​​​​​Key Duties:

  • Provide behavioral, emotional and educational support to students enrolled at the onsite Charter School, 6th-12th on the Rathgeber Village campus. 
  • Monitor the behavior and activities of children and youth and apply approved behavior modification techniques to de-escalate inappropriate behaviors.
  • Provide case management to youth enrolled at the Charter School.
  • Assist with school and campuses processes including documentation and communication with residential programs.
  • Serve as a positive role model to children and youth.
  • This is a year round position and may require working summer months and school holiday breaks.
  • The position provides direct care services with face to face contact with children and guardians.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Education, Child Development, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • One year of direct client or crisis intervention.
  • Experience working with youth in a school-setting preferable.
  • Ability to work in a high stress, fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
  • Be 21 years of age or older, with: A valid Texas driver’s license and provide Department of Public Safety proof of driving record acceptable to agency insurers for the past three years.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
