SAFE Finance Department seeks a full-time Payroll Coordinator. This position will process payroll semimonthly for approximately 400 staff, which includes essential functions of payroll preparation.

About this position:

  • We need you to fill the role of Payroll Coordinator. This is a FULL TIME, Salary Non-EXEMPT position at 4800 Manor Road, Austin TX 78723. We will pay you an annual salary of $47,000 to $55,000 depending on experience, with the potential of advancement to Payroll Manager.

Key Duties:

  • Timely and accurate production of all payroll processes, including calculation of salary and status changes, timesheet calculation, data entry, check printing and distribution, transmission of direct deposit files, and transfers of entries to accounting.
  • Maintain payroll records and files in an orderly and logical manner, with exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to all employee questions regarding payroll.
  • Timely and accurate tax deposits, related tax reports and all associated journal entries.
  • The position is responsible for the payment of taxes, accounting functions and other accounting duties as assigned. 


  • Accounting degree preferred or equivalent experience in processing payroll of multiple salary structures and grant funding for personnel.
  • Demonstrates appropriate skill level and capability in the operation of computers and general office software programs, including word-processing, spread-sheets, and database software as required in the finance department.  Must have the ability to efficiently perform 10-key calculations and accurate typing/numerical data entry using calculators and computers. Advanced MS-Excel skill is preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of accounting software capabilities. Experience with Abila-MIP Fund Accounting software preferred.
  • Handles confidential information and has the ability to interact tactfully with employees at all levels concerning sensitive issues.
  • Responds appropriately to the cultural differences present among the organization's service population and staff.  Sensitive to various ethnic and social backgrounds, beliefs and values
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
